Keyword density on AltaVista
Does a high keyword density really influence the ranking
of a Web site?
Keyword density answers the question "How much of the
body text is search term?". You might think that a high
keyword density would automatically result in a good search
engine listing for that search term. Web sites that use a
special search term very often should be relevant for
that search term.
However, that doesn't seem to be true on AltaVista. 88.65%
of all tested Web pages had a keyword density of 0%. That
means that 88.65% of all top 10 Web pages we tested on AltaVista
did not contain the queried search term! It seems that other
factors play a high role on AltaVista.
That's surprising because most search engine optimization
specialists recommed a high keyword density for a good ranking
on search engines. But which factors do help if you wants
to have a high ranking on AltaVista? We'll reveal some of
these factors in future issues of this newsletter.
