JavaScript usage on Google
In April 2002, we finished the biggest search engine ranking
study ever conducted: We analyzed 103,260 top 10 Web pages
to find out why they are well ranked in the search engines.
We examined six search engines to find out what it takes
to obtain a good ranking on the most important search engines.
This week, we analyze one of the results of our Google study.
We wanted to know if the usage of JavaScript influences the
ranking of a Web page on Google. Some search engine experts
say that JavaScript has a negative effect on the ranking of
your pages and that you should avoid it on your most important
pages.
Our study shows that 40.39% of all #1 result pages on Google
don't use JavaScript. That means that nearly 60% of all #1
result page contain JavaScript code.
30.90% of all #1 result pages use internal JavaScript code,
4.12% use external JavaScript code and 25.59% use both internal
and external JavaScript code.
It seems that in general JavaScript code doesn't affect search
engine rankings on Google negatively.
