Document types, WiseNut vs. Google
WiseNut, a search engine officially launched in September
2001 and bought by LookSmart in March 2002, claims to have
the fastest and most cost-effective search technology. It
says it can index 50 million pages a day using only 100 off-
the-shelf servers. The company says that its database has
identified 1.5 billion pages and collected 800 million pages
so far (compared to Google's 1 billion collected pages).

When a new search engine comes up, it's important to know
which document types it can index. Our search engine ranking
study showed that WiseNut is able to index the most documents
that Google is capable of indexing, too.
Of course, Web pages ending in .htm and .html are no problem
for WiseNut. In addition, WiseNut is able to index dynamic
Web pages that end in .asp, .cfm, .cgi or .php.
However, in contrast to Google, WiseNut does not index PDF
files and it doesn't index .jhtml and .xml documents.
